AI is power-hungry, but could it propel the renewable energy transition?

More people are using AI as a search engine tool for content and image generation. While AI is rapidly advancing, it uses a lot of power to perform its magic.

For example, the average ChatGPT query takes about ten times more energy than a Google search. Asking AI to create an image takes as much power as charging a smartphone.

Carbon dioxide emissions from powering AI data centres can nearly double by 2030. That’s not good, but it could fuel a higher demand for alternate forms of energy and propel the renewable energy transition.
