According to the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, Canada deployed 314 MW of solar power in 2024. That means Canada’s solar energy capacity has grown by 92% since 2019.
Utility-scale solar leads the market with 217 major solar energy products producing energy nationwide. However, “behind-the-meter” solar is also growing.
The decrease in the cost of solar and the introduction of cleantech investment tax credits last summer are reasons why the solar market continues to grow in Canada.
Vittoria Bellissimo, CEO of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, told PV Magazine that “Canada now needs to focus on how to integrate new solar capacity, including identifying necessary grid services, structural changes, and storage requirements. She added that the country is making progress and that it is an especially “innovative time” for the power sector.”
