The Alberta government is proposing additional restrictions on renewable energy, including wind and solar farms. These restrictions prevent renewable energy projects within 35 km of “pristine viewscapes,” parks and protected areas. In addition, they propose a total ban of projects where soil conditions are prime for crop yielding.
The government says the restrictions are to protect the environment. However, critics disagree. They believe these restrictions, if implemented, should apply to the entire energy sector, including oil, gas and other mining, and not just renewable.
