International consultants Wood Mackenzie released a report that argued the plan for transitioning to clean, renewable energy sources doesn’t consider the complexities of energy supply or how oil and gas are used beyond just generating power. They say that replacing oil and gas will be a ‘gargantuan’ task.
Electrical power in the US, for example, is set to grow over the next ten years due to the explosive growth of data centres that support AI, cloud computing, digitalization and more.
Wood Mackenzie said that while costs for wind and solar are dropping, they remain expensive due to the backup energy sources needed when the renewables aren’t available.
