Solar energy is quickly growing in Canada. The solar industry supports Canadian jobs related to design, installation and more. Plus, solar energy is clean, sustainable and renewable. This is great news!
However, solar panels are imported. This article from the CBC states that about 80% of the world’s solar panels are made in China, and many of Canada’s panels come from Vietnam. Experts say it might be difficult for Canada to compete with the mass production of panels happening in those countries, but we could bring some of that to Canada to help meet demand and strengthen our local economy.
If Canada wants to build solar panel manufacturing facilities, it needs to help solar companies increase demand so that there is more incentive to do so.
