Supporting remote Indigenous communities with renewable energy transition

Indigenous leaders put forward a new vision for switching to renewable energy sources that will benefit rural and remote communities in BC and Canada. Last month, the National Wah-ila-toos Indigenous Council published a report called “Kinship and Prosperity: Proven Solutions for a Clean Energy Landscape.”

The vision is to support Indigenous communities that are remote, with limited access to resources and who are reliant on fossil-fuel-burning energy sources. These villages are isolated from the grid and are starting to transition to renewable energy like solar. The report is empowering people in these communities to champion their energy, as many of these remote communities had no say or inclusion in the development of BC’s power grid.
