Will Canada step up and catch up with renewable energy transition?

Last week, CBC reported that Mark Carney has been meeting with world leaders and private businesses while abroad in an attempt to attract more global investment to Canada. He invited 100 of the world’s biggest investors to a summit in Toronto in the fall, aiming to attract $1 trillion in new investment to the country over the next five years.

Carney was quoted in a release saying, “Canada has what the world wants. We’re an energy superpower, with the most educated workforce in the world and rock-solid fiscal strength. The first-ever Canada Investment Summit will capitalize on those advantages to help drive billions in new investments into Canada.”

With fossil fuels on the table, contributors to this opinion piece fear the summit might walk away from climate targets. Will this new investment protect against climate risks?

Is there still time to step up and catch up with the world in renewable energy transition?
