A recent report from the Fraser Institute shows that oil, natural gas, and coal still make up the majority of Canada’s energy use, supporting industries, transportation, and many homes across the country.
The report says fossil fuels accounted for 76.3 percent of Canada’s domestic energy consumption in 2024, down only slightly from 76.8 percent in 1995.
The report highlights the challenges of transitioning to lower-emission energy sources while maintaining reliable and affordable power. As Canada continues to invest in renewable energy and cleaner technologies, the energy sector will need to balance environmental goals with economic needs and growing demand for energy.
